The 5th International Workshop on Advances on Privacy Preserving Technologies and Solutions (IWAPS 2025), taking place on August 11-14, 2025, in Ghent, Belgium, will serve as a dynamic platform to address one of the most pressing challenges of our digital era: safeguarding privacy and ensuring security in an age dominated by AI, machine learning (ML), and ubiquitous data exchange. The event will take place as part of a broader effort to bring together leading minds from academia, industry, and policy to discuss breakthroughs, challenges, and the future of privacy-preserving technologies. Co-organized by the FAME Project (HORIZON, GA no: 101092639), IWAPS 2025 highlights its commitment to advancing secure and trustworthy AI ecosystems. FAME is a joint effort of world-class experts in data management, data technologies, the data economy, and digital finance to develop and launch to the global market a unique, trustworthy, energy-efficient, and secure federated data marketplace for Embedded Finance (EmFi).
By supporting IWAPS 2025, the FAME project underscores its commitment to building trustworthy and privacy-respecting infrastructures that can power next-generation financial services and data ecosystems
A Timely Initiative in a Rapidly Evolving Digital Landscape
The convergence of massive datasets and scalable cloud infrastructure has fueled extraordinary advances in AI and ML across sectors such as transportation, identity management, trust computing, and natural language processing. However, this rapid growth has also amplified cyber risks and created an ever-expanding attack surface.
In response, IWAPS 2025 aims to push the boundaries of current research and applied methodologies in cybersecurity. The workshop invites cutting-edge contributions that span technical, legal, policy, and socio-economic dimensions of privacy, particularly emphasizing AI-driven and ML-enhanced security solutions. Topics of interest include secure computation, privacy-preserving data analytics, resilient IoT architectures, and human-centric security design.
Towards Robust and Responsible AI
A core focus of IWAPS 2025 is the design and development of privacy-preserving AI systems, with particular attention to scalable, multidisciplinary approaches. Submissions addressing privacy challenges in the context of adversarial AI, data governance, identity protection, and explainability in security-critical systems are especially encouraged.
In line with this mission, authors of accepted papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their work for publication in a Special Issue titled “Enhancing AI Robustness in Cybersecurity: Challenges and Strategies” in Frontiers in Computer Science (Impact Factor: 2.4; Q1).
Collaboration Across Leading European Initiatives
The strength of IWAPS 2025 lies in its collaborative nature. In addition to FAME, the workshop is co-organized by a consortium of prestigious European Commission-funded projects, including:
