3. PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT

This information is used exclusively to send you the requested updates, project-related information, or to respond to your enquiries.

With your consent, we also collect limited information via cookies, as described below.

4. LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING

We process personal data only where a valid legal basis exists under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

For communication activities and website analytics carried out within the framework of the FAME project, the primary legal basis relied upon is consent, in accordance with Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. This means that personal data is processed only with users’ freely given, explicit, and informed consent, for example, when subscribing to the newsletter, contacting us directly, or accepting non-essential cookies.

Consent may be withdrawn at any time. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to its withdrawal.

5. DATA COLLECTED THROUGH WEBSITE ANALYTICS

Cookies are small text files stored on a user’s device (such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone) when visiting a website. Cookies may be used to ensure the technical functioning of a website, to collect statistical information on website usage, or to improve user experience.

The FAME website uses both essential and non-essential cookies. For non-essential cookies, including those used for website analytics, user consent is requested in accordance with the ePrivacy Directive.

 6. PURPOSE OF DATA COLLECTION

Personal data is collected and processed only for specific and legitimate purposes and is not processed in a manner incompatible with those purposes. The purposes of processing include:

  • Providing news and updates: For users who subscribe to the newsletter, contact details are used to send project news, updates, and information relevant to the FAME project.
  • Responding to enquiries: When users contact us, the information provided is used to respond to questions, requests, or communications.
  • Website analytics and improvements: Aggregated and pseudonymised analytics data is used, with prior consent, to understand how users navigate and interact with the website. This information supports analysis of traffic patterns and user behaviour and helps improve website structure, content, and overall usability.
  • Compliance and reporting: As a Horizon Europe-funded project, aggregated website statistics may be used to meet reporting and accountability obligations towards the European Commission or project partners. Such reporting relies exclusively on anonymised or aggregated data and does not identify individual users.

Personal data will not be used for purposes other than those described above without prior information being provided and, where required, consent being obtained.

7. DATA PROTECTION RIGHTS

FAME is committed to ensuring that users are fully informed of their data protection rights. In accordance with the GDPR, users are entitled to the following rights:

  • Right of access: to request confirmation as to whether personal data is being processed and to obtain a copy of such data.
  • Right to rectification: to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
  • Right to erasure: to request deletion of personal data under certain conditions.
  • Right to restriction of processing: to request limitation of processing under specific circumstances.
  • Right to object: to object to the processing of personal data under certain conditions.
  • Right to data portability: to request the transfer of personal data to another organisation or directly to the user, where applicable.

Requests are generally handled free of charge. A reasonable fee may apply only where a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive, in accordance with the GDPR. Requests will be addressed within one month of receipt.

To exercise any of these rights, users may contact the data controller using the contact details provided above.

8. DATA RETENTION

In accordance with the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement No. 101092639), beneficiaries are required to retain records and supporting documentation for a period of five (5) years following the final payment by the granting authority.

Article 20.1 of the Grant Agreement further provides that, where audits, investigations, or other legal proceedings are ongoing at the end of this period, the relevant documentation — and any associated personal data — must be retained until such procedures are concluded.

As the project ended on 31 December 2025 and the final payment is expected approximately three months later, the current estimated data retention period extends until approximately 31 March 2031.

9. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS

All personal data processed through this website is handled within the European Union. Personal data is not transferred to third parties or to countries outside the EU/EEA.

10. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in legal requirements or processing activities. Any updates will be published on this page, and users are encouraged to review the policy regularly.
